The Long Term Acute Care Hospital of Choice

Thank you for visiting Norman Specialty Hospital, Norman and southern Oklahoma’s only long-term acute care hospital (LTACH).  We serve Oklahoma as well as the surrounding states.

What makes Norman Specialty Hospital different?

As an LTACH, we focus on providing a higher level of acute care for a longer period of time. Think of us as the transition step between a hospital intensive care unit and skilled nursing or rehab, providing treatment-level, rather than diagnostic-level, care.  LTACHs are focused on patients with serious medical problems who require intense, special treatment for a long time (usually 25 days or greater). These patients often transfer from intensive care units in traditional hospitals. It would not be unusual for an LTACH patient to need ventilator or other life support medical assistance.

How is a long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) different from a traditional hospital?

The biggest difference is in the specialization.  LTACHs such as Norman Specialty Hospital specialize in medically complex patients requiring long-term acute care services.  25 days or greater of hospitalization may be required.  Services may include acute dialysis for medically complex patients, a wound care program for non-healing wounds, ventilator weaning or other intense pulmonary care, or extensive antibiotic therapy for complicated infections.  In contrast, a traditional hospital has an average length of stay of 3 – 6 days.  The short length of stay means a short plan of care for patients.

Why consider Norman Specialty Hospital for your long-term acute care needs?

We provide specialized medical treatment in a beautiful, new facility.  All 50 beds are private rooms.  We have specialized Respiratory Care, Wound Care and Therapy Services, as well as all the ancillary services to support your treatment plan.

Whom do we serve?

We provide medical treatment to individuals who have experienced life-altering medical events requiring a longer acute care stay.  We provide support to the families and caregivers of our patients.  We have a medical staff able to meet all your acute care needs including but not limited to Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, Wound Care, Nephrology, Neurology, Cardiology, Podiatry and Psychiatry.
